“In 1957, a group of farsighted leaders incorporated the Southwest Virginia 4-H Center. Washington County, Virginia gave the original 50-acre site, and by 1960, the first camping season was underway. Since that time, over 25,000 4-H’ers have camped at the Center; enthusiastic band students have practiced new marching routines; and countless families, businesses and civic groups have enjoyed the elaborate 4-H Center facilities.” (From the “From Silver to Gold: Celebrating 25 Years Camping” anniversary celebration event program.)
The Southwest Virginia 4-H Educational Center is a 501(c)(3) registered nonprofit providing unique cultural and education experiences for youth and adults throughout the region and beyond.
Located in Washington County, just outside of Abingdon, the 4-H Center has been serving the 13-county Southwest Virginia community at its historic 75-acre facility since 1960.
Our flagship program is Junior 4-H Camp, an overnight week-long program for youth ages 9-12 with 13-18 year old teen leaders. In addition to programming, the 4-H Center is available for rental to groups for business or private gatherings and functions like annual meetings, trainings, and family reunions. The experienced staff at the 4-H Center love to facilitate personalized team-building workshops, outdoor leadership programming, and strategic planning retreats.
